Accessibility Statement for Wire and Wings LLC Web Store
Wire and Wings LLC is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Measures to support accessibility
Wire and Wings LLC takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of Wire and Wings Web Store:
* Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.
* Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.
* Appoint an accessibility officer and/or ombudsperson.
* Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.
* Include people with disabilities in our design personas.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Wire and Wings Web Store is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. Currently, the site's assessment scores on various tools ranges from 80%-91%.
Additional accessibility considerations
Although my goal is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, I have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria:
* Images of text are only used for decorative purposes.
* Color contrast is standard or better.
*Size of text is large enough to be read easily.
*Nearly every important aspect of the site can be navigated via keyboard only. The cart is tricky, though. See below, under Limitations and alternatives.

Limitations and alternatives
I am currently looking for a better web developer, but as a small business owner with no employees, I do not have the funds to hire a private developer or company to build my site. Therefore, I have been using Shopify as my website development platform. Shopify uses themes and a drag-and-drop editor, a combination which does not allow access to background code, including beings able to change some tags. However, I have been able to track down almost every needed element setting in the css code.
As soon as I can come up with the funds, I plan to leave Shopify and hire a company to develop an updated fully ADA-compliant site. In the meantime, please be patient with me and contact me if you have any accessibility issues with my site. I do care and sincerely want to comply, but I am not personally a web developer and it is a very difficult process to track down every issue and try to find out how to fix it when you can't read the code or find the element in it that needs to be changed. Nevertheless, I am in the process of doing so to the best of my ability.
Despite my best efforts to ensure accessibility of Wire and Wings Web Store, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact me if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for Wire and Wings Web Store:
* Since I use Shopify drag-and-drop editor, there are tags that I am not able to access and change, such as Alt-Text for my header image, which is just a decorative logo which reads "Wire and Wings".
* I am also unable to add Alt-Text for product images on store pages. I do describe the actual pieces as well as I can in the text.
* Checkout process: In order to check out, you must add something to the cart and press Enter. Then you will be on the Checkout button. Press Enter to get to the checkout page. In that page, you cannot navigate to the Remove buttons, but you can still remove an item by changing the quantity to Zero. Otherwise, if you have something in your cart and wish to go to it without adding any more items, you must first navigate to the Home page. From there, first go to the Cart menu item. It will show you the cart as a dropdown. Then Tab 11 times to get to the first item in the cart. After that, Tab through the cart items until you get to the Checkout button. Sorry for the inconvenience! I am waiting for Shopify to get back to me on solving the issue.
* The coupon code box and text on the checkout page are low-contrast. I am waiting on Weebly to help with this as well, since there is no way for me to change it via their options or in the css code.
* My SKU numbers are not in a contrasting color. I have been unsuccessful in tracking down the code for this one element setting in order to change it. However, my customers really do not need to see the SKU code. It is not needed to view, describe or purchase any item, and not all items have SKU codes anyway.
* There may be links (such as the link to the EU online choices webpage in the cookies banner) that are low-contrast. At the moment, this is another thing I cannot change, and am waiting for help with from Shopify.
* Archived documents might not work with current assistive technologies because they use outdated technologies that do not support accessibility. I convert documents to new formats upon request within 3 business days. Please contact info@wireandwings.com for support.
